Josephine Room

JosephineRoom

The Josephine Room was occupied by Josephine, (daughter of Estelle) and 1st husband Joseph Davis Balfour (nephew of Jefferson Davis) during the post Civil War construction period. The mood of this room is both playful and soothing, with an antique rocking horse and four-post Queen size bed among the classic cherry wood furnishings. On the wall hangs Degas’ portrait of Josephine, his 10 year old niece, receiving, in Creole tradition, a pedicure, Le Pédicure painted in this room, along with her photograph and documents from her life. The private bathroom features a classic Victorian claw foot tub with a shower attached. An adjoining door between the Josephine and Estelle rooms allows conversion to a spacious two-room suite for accommodation of families or larger groups
